"Bhang is a relatively mild beverage, offered to Shiva by pouring some over his lingam,
and by being drunk by his devotees. Shanta Sacharorf, in Flavors of India, gives this recipe:
2 cups water
1 ounce marijuana
4 cups warm milk
2 tablespoons blanched, chopped almonds
Vs teaspoon garam masala (cloves, cinnamon,cardamom)
V4 teaspoon powdered ginger
Vz to l teaspoon rosewaterl cup sugar
Pour the boiling water into a teapot and steepthe marijuana for seven minutes, strain throughmuslin, squeezing out as much water from theherb as possible. Set water aside. Grind theherb in a mortar with two teaspoons warmmilk, squeeze the milk out into a bowl. Repeatfour or five times until you've used about
A cup of milk. Add chopped almonds to theherbal mass and grind as before with morewarm milk.
Squeeze as before. Repeat severaltimes and then discard the pulpy remains.
Combine milk and water and add garammasala, dried ginger, rosewater, sugar, and theremaining milk.
Chill and serve."
